In the Blink of an Eye
Another year has seemingly flown by, but we’re taking this holiday season to slow down, reflect and appreciate all that 2022 gave us.

Design duo Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough of Proenza Schouler partnered with Riggs for a two-day trunk show featuring the brand’s Pre-Spring 2023 and Fall 2022 Collections. In between appointments, the pair were on hand for an invite-only reception at Silver Lyan, where VIPs such as Ashley Davis, Simone Sanders, Jacu Strauss feted Proenza Schouler in style.
First Lady Jill Biden joined Smithsonian Secretary Lonnie G. Bunch III and Hirshhorn Director Melissa Chiu for an artist-led ceremony in November to signal the groundbreaking of the museum’s Sculpture Garden on the National Mall. Artist-architect Hiroshi Sugimoto’s redesign will expand accessibility; make space for 50% more artworks from Joseph Hirshhorn’s foundational gift; add 150% more seating and shade; create galleries for performance art and large-scale commissions and reunite the campus by opening the underground passageways that closed in the late 1970s. The project is expected to take 24-months and welcome 300% more visitors when it reopens in the Hirshhorn’s 50th season.
Celebrity Chef Gordon Ramsay himself helped open his first restaurant in DC this fall (Hell’s Kitchen is set to open just down the block early 2023), bringing DC’s media, influencers and the biggest catch of all, Mayor Muriel Bowser. Ramsay and Bowser teamed up against Deputy Mayor John Falcicchio and Chef Christina Wilson (Hell’s Kitchen season 10 winner) for a Biscoff shake contest. Of course, Ramsay and the mayor’s Biscoff shake took first place. It’s the night out we’ve all been waiting for.
The annual tradition of lighting the soaring tree at CityCenterDC continued on the Saturday after Thanksgiving this year with NBC4’s Eun Yang, National Children’s Hospital Foundation President DeAnn Marshall, and Director at Hines and General Manager of CityCenterDC Timothy Lowery, along with Dr. Bear and Children’s National patient Mason, all pushing the button to officially illuminate the 85-foot stunner. Thousands gathered in the plaza for what’s become DC’s official start of the holiday season and to listen to Christmas tunes from The Revels.
The festivities will continue all month long at CityCenterDC with musicians in The Plaza each Friday and Saturday from 5:00 – 7:00 pm during the first three weekends in December. On Saturday, December 10 and 17, kids and adults will love the Candy Land-themed candy cart by Sugar & Ice in The Plaza. The cart will have free treats from 12:00 – 4:00 pm.
CityCenterDC will continue raising funds for Children’s National Hospital throughout December. Donations can be made here, with CityCenterDC matching up to $10,000.
